Richard Poumelin's Vision of Venice

A castle, a village, a groupf of flowers. New works are available at the Westport River Gallery by internationally collected artist E. J. Paprocki. Exhibited widely, he has been featured in 14 solo exhibitions and many prestigious group shows. His work has received critical acclaim and has been featured in several national magazines including Art of the West, Southwest Art, and Gulfshore Life. Paprocki's paintings hang in more than 1000 public, private and corporate collections in over a dozen countries around the world

Zider's Nautical View Turns to Central Park

Central Park in New York City. The latest from Doug Zider. Zider creates vibrant marine scenes, sweeping nautical vistas, powerful clipper ships majestically gliding over churning waterways, and small personal craft during the sunset. “As an islander and boater my whole life, the water has always been the source of play, work, and peace of mind. A delicate environment always changing, always giving up something new to see, a true natural resource. It is with great pleasure I study and paint what has been given to us. Zider attended The School of Visual Arts, NYC, studying realism painting, and for 30 years has worked at NBC.

HM Saffer's Unique Works in Westport

Award winning artist HM Saffer's works are a unique blend of works by Klimt and Van Gogh. His works on board are full of vibrant color and each is a very focused work of art. Several of his works at the gallery are below. Call 203-226-6934 if you may be interested. In 1965, he went to Paris to take economics classes, but wound up becoming a musician with Hugues Aufray, Jacques Brel and Charles Aznavour. He was hired by Barclay Records as a producer and had several hits during the late 1960s During this time he also was chef/owner of two restaurants in Paris and later a third in Ibiza, Spain. Zheng's Works Reflect Images of Tibetan Life

Original oil paintings by Asian master Zheng are always on display, including this unique painting of a wild horse. His extraordinary works, portraying the heartland of Tibet, not only illustrate the beauty and simplicity of daily survival in a small village, but they create a vivacious mood that captures the intense emotions of the human experience. Born in Shanghai in 1957, Zheng studied at the Central Arts Institute in Beijing and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Since 1981 he has created over thirty books and was awarded major prizes by the China National Art Preview for his illustrations.

Old World Enchantment by Florian Grass

Striking art with an old world enchantment have landed from Germany, from Florian Grass, who comes from a well-known artist family in Germany. Grass' highly detailed realist paintings resemble 17th Century Old Master Work. His artistic interest began at the age of 9. Florian Grass is the youngest of three sons of Hans Grass, a famous painter of European flowers and winter scenes. Florian enjoyed his childhood in his father's studio, being surrounded by paint boxes, paints, brushes & varnish. He learned very quick and early in his life about nature, flowers and how to best capture them on canvas. He exhibits in Salzburg, Zurich, Nice, Venice, Berlin, Munich, and now Westport, Connecticut.

Poppy Field by France's Dominique Dorie

Just came in, a darling little 11x11 Poppy fild by Dominique Dorie. Dominique Dorié was born in Versailles in 1958. At the age of sixteen he began working in the Louvre in a conservation capacity as a restorer of sculptures. Dominique Dorie enjoyed the opportunities his location presented him, most especially, the chance to study the many masterpieces hanging on the walls of the great museum. Although Dominique Dorié had little free time, he felt compelled to sketch.

Breathtaking Seascape By Dominique Dorie

New works have surfaced from master impressionist Dominique Dorie. His creative works are collected worldwide, and reflects the timeless substance of a vast work of French impressionism. The artist who hung his work on the fences surrounding the church of St. Germain des Pres has traveled a long distance. In 1985 he exhibited his work in the Salon de Criel and in the Salon d'Orly. He was awarded the Prix du Salon in the latter exhibition. In 1984 and 1985 he exhibited in the prestigious Salon d'Automne. In 1986 he won the Medaille d'Or at an exhibition in Deauville. He has since become one of the most highly regarder painters of his time and is listed in the prestigious Benezit Encyclopedia, 2000 Edition. We have a strong collection of works by Dorie.

Monte Carlo Litho by Pablo Picasso

Westport River Gallery has a Pablo Picasso lithograph from the 1982 Marina Picasso Collection entitled "Monte Carlo." It is beautifully framed, and ready to be hung. This piece is pencil numbered from a limited edition of 500. Paper measures 23" x  29.5". Printed on high quality archival paper with generous margins. In mint condition, no tears stains or creases. This is an image which was chosen by Picasso’s granddaughter, Marina Picasso, from the paintings she inherited from the Pablo Picasso estate. One item only; priced at only $1500. Born October 25, 1881, Spain, Pablo Picasso, became one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century and the creator of Cubism. A Spanish expatriate painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and stage designer, Picasso was considered radical in his work.

Jean Claude Tron: "Images Radiate Warmth"

"I do not paint formal landscapes that represent a particular place which then binds us. I prefer a different world, a world that radiates warmth and happiness, leaving space to dream..." Jean Claude Tron is passionate about the southern region of France, in particular Provence, and this remains his essential source of inspiration. The extravagance of the colours in his palette betrays the influence of Fauvist Expressionism, featuring brilliant yellow, deep azure blues, strong reds, shades of violet and just a touch of vivid green. His canvases are characterised by simplicity of form which represents the natural order of the countryside, while the thickly applied blocks of colour make the fields vibrate with light.

 

Dubord: Rich Tones of an Impressionists' Palette

Jean Pierre Dubord is known for his ability to capture the subtleties of light and color unique to each seasons. In 1970, he had his first exhibition of approximately thirty paintings in Rouen , a show which was highly praised by art critics. In addition to an annual show in Rouen, he has also exhibited in Bourdeaux, Le Havre, La Rochelle, Osaka, Quebec and in the major, famous salons of Paris. Dubord has his own original approach to painting. His palette is rich in its tones, and is fresh and uplifting. His work is so highly regarded that he is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards.

Kerfily's Mediterranean Color Harmonies

New works are here by French Impressionist Kerfily. Inspired by the Mediterranean, the South of France, Corsica, and Greece, Kerfily's enthusiasm for his art is fully evident in his windswept seascapes and timeless, sun-dappled village scenes. Noted for his power to evoke emotion, opulence of light and distinctive color harmonies. Kerfily translates the ordinary moment into the magical, inviting us to be revitalized by the world's simple pleasures.

Michel Ferran's Unique Composition

One more beautiful floral just landed at the Westport River Gallery by the late Michel Ferran. Born in 1943 close to Narbonne, Michel Ferran, photographer and painter since childhood, decided in 1992 to open a workshop and consequently became a professional painter, primarily focusing on the landscapes of Provence. His painting evolved quickly to a purified stylization of the subjects and forms. Working the paste and the colors together, it carved its fabric of a pallet containing blue, ochres, yellows and reds, highlighting the light to create unique effects. His talent was noticed by collectors and publishers. His pictures were then collected across Europe, and the United States, until he passed away in 2003.

Pathways to Westport from Ecuador

You may be in Westport, but you can stroll through the doorways of Quito, Ecuador and let your imagination continue the journey. Enter through a blue, green, red or brown doorway. Warm earth tones of the buildings and plazas punctuated by richly colored doorways entice the viewer to enter into another time and place. Jorge Morales takes us into the charming world of cobblestones, courtyards and sunlight that are the hallmark of his hometown, Quito, Jorge Morales, member of the Ecuadorian Culture House-Extension Ruminahui, has had his work displayed in galleries throughout Venezuela and Ecuador.

E.J. Paprocki's Lillies Float Into Westport

New works are now available at the Westport River Gallery by Internationally collected artist E. J. Paprocki. An avid painter since childhood, he studied Business and Fine Art at Loyola University. After receiving his BA, Paprocki augmented his formal art studies with extensive travels in Europe, painting and visiting the great museums. Exhibited widely, he has been geatured in 14 one-man exhibitions and many prestigious group shows on two continents. His work has received critical acclaim and has been featured in several national magazines including Art of the West, Southwest Art, and Gulfshore Life. His oils hang in more than 1000 public, private & corporate collections in over a dozen countries around the world.

Hudson Style Seascape by H.S. Kim

Hae Suk Kim, born in Korea, is known for her vibrant, colorful seascapes, powerfully billowing skies, and subtle shades of blue and gray that gently entice the viewer into a picture of calm. She works on board, taking control of the images and colors, creating a scene that begs to be entered, savored and enjoyed. Her work is in a number of collections, and she has been involved in many exhibitions in New England. She has won several awards for her work, and has studied with Sidney Simon and Frank Mason. We have one picture available.

Lecomte's Works Available in Westport

French Canadian Nadine Lecomte has a unique technique, creating soft and colorful works featuring her native Brittany. Later, when she began painting in oil, vibrant images of Provence and Africa became the primary subjects of her work. Since 1993, she has exhibited her paintings predominantly in Brittany, Provence, Paris, China, New York and Westport. Her work is bold, brash and can easily fit into any room, office or study. She paints florals with a pallet knife, and creates whisps of colors. The Westport River Gallery has several of her works.

Alain Bordier Delights with Blazing Colors

Alain Bordier, born in 1968 in France, is a passionate of Provence from which he translates the colors magnificently. His blazing paint with the knife reveals us a lively artist and of an outstanding temperament. His subjects are emphasized by brilliant tones, lines and impressive volumes. The landscapes of wild areas alternate with the bright still lives, almost in movement. On the canvas, only a few reference points are left, such as the reefs filled with color. He then slashes the lavander, makes the wild grass burst, sculpts the mountains, and clears the skies where thundery concerts will take place. The yellows and oranges are the protagonists.His works are the object of numerous exhibitions in France and Europe, but also abroad, New Zealand, Russia, Japan, China, Canada or Australia where they take away one very striking success.

European Lithographs Now Available

The Westport River Gallery has 14 new European lithographs by a variety of arrtists from around the world. At left is a color lithograph by listed artist Victor Zarou. Zarou is known for his scenes of European landscapes, many of which have been recreated for posters. This one is the Riviera; each is numbered, limited edition, and in excellent condition. Seaside with Richard Poumelin

Self taught Poumelin is inspired by many of the impressionist and post-impressionist masters. Crisp Images of Bruges & Paris by Kaprielian

The original oils by Armenian-born Yetvart Kaprielianare lively, crisp, and show a love Paris and its surrounding country. Yetvart Kaprielian has been listed in the E. Benezit, the prestigious world-recognized "Who's Who" of painters and sculptors since 1999. Born in 1959, Yetvart Kaprielian has been painting since 22. He travels throughout the Ile-de-France, Normandy, Brittany, Provence, and the riverbanks of Seine. Kaprielian expresses through touches of luminous and sparkling colors a harmony of reflections. The Westport River Gallery has about 8 of his works available, from France and Belgium.

Lavender Fields by Alex Perez

Born in Santiago, Chile, in 1946, Perez is a fourth generation of artists. After graduating from the ‘Academy of Fine Arts’ in Santiago, he worked in his father's studio - the Ibero-Chilean painter Eduardo Perez - where he acquired most of his artistic knowledge and skill. On his father’s side, Alex Perez is the fourth generation of artists trained in fields ranging from painting to architecture. His Spanish ancestors restored murals and frescos in the ancient cathedrals of 18th century Spain. Perez inherited his love for music from his mother's family, of which came the Philharmonic Conductor Victor Tevah.

Zheng's Exclusive Tibetan Impressions in Westport

Westport River Gallery now has about 30 watercolor paintings and oil sketches by Asian master Zheng. These are reflections of the final works he has completed, and priced to move. They are unique, personal, and focused on a way of life fast disappearing as the Tibetans battle the Chinese. His extraordinary works, portraying the heartland of Tibet, not only illustrate the beauty and simplicity of daily survival in a small village, but they create a vivacious mood that captures the intense emotions of the human experience. Mini French Art show 6-9 Sat @ Villa Gourmet; Music, Wine, Cheese; Tapas from Basque Bistro

A free exhibit of French art from the Westport River Gallery in Westport, is underway at the Villa Gourmet, 11 River St., Milford. Kickoff is 6-9 pm Saturday Sept. 17. The exhibit, which runs through December, includes art by internationally-rated French artists including Jean-Pierre Dubord, Dominique Dorie, Elisabeth Estivalet, Henri Lapetit, Corinne Vilcaz, Jacqueline Duvoisin, Kerfily and others. Located in downtown Milford, the Villa Gourmet is a specialty food store featuring French and other imported gourmet foods and cheeses.

Dynamic Painterly Couple: Visions of France

New artists at the Westport River Gallery include Blair and Laurie Pessemier, fine art painters with a penchant for Paris. Blair's roots are in architecture and design -- he is a registered Architect. Laurie earned degrees in fine art and art history. The two painted in Seattle before moving to Paris, France in 1993. Laurie won the mayor's prize for painting on the Champs Elysees in 2000. In addition to painting, Blair works in silver and bronze, producing tableware and furniture. Laurie and Blair now offer tours celebrating the art, culture and cuisine of the city they love. Both are impressionists with distincy;ly different styles, which sometimes blend into a unique presentation. They work on board, canvas, wine bottle panels.

Focus on Fairfield by Lapetit

A variety of new works by Henri Lapetit of Fairfield, Connecticut has arrived and is not even framed yet. Art has always had a dominant place in his life and this natural talent means that from the early age of 16 he paid for many of his world trips by painting and selling his works en route. With no formal art education he has always had to rely on the public at large to be his severest critic. He paints Westport, Southport, Paris, Saint Tropez and Southern France. Several of his works are also on display at th Villa Gourmet in downtown Milford, Connecticut.

New Works in Westport by Realist Jeff Haase

New England Nature Painter Jeff Haase is creates oil painting on board of African elephant with zebras, to serene landscapes (see on this page) in the background. His works are known to confuse people who may initially consider them to be photos. He spends time in the Northeast, Africa, Florida and out West. He has painted sunsets, raccoons, moose, turtle, lions and other animals.

Unique Confluence of Colors & Shapes

Several select paintings have arrived at the Westport River Gallery by a new artist. Peiliang Jin is a painter of landscapes and outdoor scenes, primarily in watercolor. His technique is inspired by his classical training in the traditional and ancient watercolor methods of the Chinese art culture. Fine point brushes allow him with a single stroke to convey accuracy and delicacy to highlight anchor structures such as trees and flowers within a painting, while at the same time blending curve, color and light in the more expansive parts of the painting. One of the artist's passions is music, particularly the violin, which he studied as a boy in Shanghai. Music helps him visualize and create art that envelops our senses and gently warms us internally. His unique blend of traditional Chinese & modern art, portrait art and his eye for color combine to give us a unique vision of the peace and tranquility of a world as it should be.

 

France's Old World Charm by Henri Lepetit

A variety of new works have arrived at the Westport River Gallery from Henry Lepetit, incuding the two shown here. Saint Tropez, Provence and even Fairfield, Connecticut reflect the latest unique works by European Artist Henri Lepetit. Born in Brussels in 1956 Henri Lepetit is almost larger then life, an Indiana Jones character who seems to have done everything, from bagging spitting cobras in the Ivory Coast when he was only 13 to fighting in a Squadron of the S.A.S! His new works in the Westport River Gallery are landscapes, market scenes, and Paris.

 

Bold Landscapes by Jean Claude Tron

Born in 1943 in Champagne sur Oise, France, Jean Claude Tron began to paint at the age of 13 At 16 he started work, but his desire to paint was so strong that he continued his art studies through evening classes. Despite fulfilling numerous commissions and holding exhibitions of his work at several prestigious galleries, Jean Claude Tron did not begin to dedicate all his energies to painting until 1990. Since then he has seen his reputation grow steadily throughout Europe and the United States, where his work is in constant demand and his originals sell for commanding prices. We have one picture left.

Oliver Delights with French Sea-Landscapes

New works are on the way by French artist Oliver, who is new to the Westport River Gallery. The first one we've received is a striking impressionist picture from France, with a powerful moving sky overlooking a famous viaduct. More pictures later this week on a variety of subjects. Perfect Artistic Harmony by Antonelle

Drawing from the majestic New York City skyline, Antonelle imbues the powerful skyscrapers of a modern city with nature's dressing of winter's snow and spring's blossoms. He takes an evening scene and magically, with the use of color, dissolves the darkness into watery reflections on the rain-slicked street. Antonelle captures all the seasons and the poignant nostalgic moments are brought to life by combining nature and architecture. The result is beautiful harmony. He's comfortable painting Central Park, European vistas, and even the simplicity of a country gate adorned with flowers.

Andrews Captures Serene British Seascapes

The late Stanley Andrews was a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists for many years. He was exhibited widely in the Midlands and South of England, including the Singer and Friedlander Watercolor Exhibition and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolor. He also taught many classes in painting, influencing the next generation of English painters. He enjoyed gardening, works by Monet and was been influenced by noted painter Edward Seago. "Watercolors and oils have freshness, spontaneity, atmosphere and a pleasing impression." His fluid style favors beach scenes, harbors, estuaries, towns and landscapes.

Paulemile Pissarro Exhibit Planned in Westport

A special exhibit featuring original works by Camille Pissarro's youngest son, Paulemile Pissarro is being planned for later this summer. Paulémile Pissarro was born in Eragny in 1884. He was bought up in the artistic environment of the family home there and, encouraged by his father, began drawing at an early age. Paulémile’s godfather was Claude Monet who became his teacher and close friend, particularly after Camille’s death in 1903. Here are two original oil painting that will be included in the exhibit.

 

New Impressionist Works by Antonelle

When not painting the landscapes of Pennsylvania or the seascapes of Long Island, Patrick Antonelle portrays the many facades and moods of New York City, Central Park and their environs. They are depictions of his favorite New York architecture in various seasons rendered in his own Pointillistic- Impressionistic style. In his art, prints and posters, he often resurrects nostalgic New York scenes that have been long forgotten. From the Mist and the Dawn by HM Saffer

New works are now available by HM Saffer, who is unique as his art, with influences ranging from Van Gogh and Klimt to Signac. In the end his creations are more Safferism than anything else. His works are generally on board, where he controls the flow of his oils, and each is full of vibrant color. HM Saffer is just as comfortable with painting images of London and Amalfi, to Provence and reflective pools of colorfully littered leaves.

Nature's Beauty by Eugene Paprocki

Eugene Paprocki’s paintings at the Westport River Gallery evoke the timeless beauty of nature, a witness to the integration of mankind’s imaginings and natures gifts: a simple brick path, a plain iron gate, sailboats that mirror the contours of the clouds and seas. During visits to many of the great museums in the US and Europe, Paprocki was drawn to the familiar genius of the 19th century Impressionists, and he admired Monet, Pissarro, and Sisley. Through careful study, Paprocki found direction in his own artistic vision. Eugene Paprocki's subject matter evolved from cityscape to the country, the gardens the rural path, distant sailboats, the floral still life.

Exhibit Opening 6-8 pm Tonight in Westport

Join us 6-8 pm June 24 (tonight) at the Westport River Gallery to explore the world of the sea otter (also dinosaurs & jungle cover). Rothman is a natural science illustrator who has joined botanical expeditions to the neotropics & the Samoan archipelago. His work has been in major publications & also used for scientific purposes. His art reflects both his work for The New York Times Science section and his continued collaboration with the Institute of Systematic Botany at the NY Botanical Garden. Other works. Mona Takes us to Vermont & Westport

Mona's works are fresh, defined, and take you from Vermont barns to Westport's famed Country Playhouse (right). She create hazy sunlit pathways, to country scenes with barns and fresh meadows. Her background includes work with some of the world's top architects, and her art published in top architectural and consumer publications. Mona's works can be found in the collections of Ron Meyer, then-President/COO of Universal Studios; Eric Idle, writer/actor of Monty Python, and Christopher Plummer.

Doug Zider Captures Coastal Regions

Doug Zider turns to the water for true inspiration, with runs to the shore packed with endless coastal settings. He has studied Plein Air and composition with acclaimed landscapist Joseph McGurl at his studio in Mass., applying field techniques to the studio work. He relyies on one's eye and the understanding of nature's purposeful way. Doug's original work is in galleries in Maine, NY, and the Westport River Gallery in Connecticut. Over time at NBC he has participated in a range of creative teams in entertainment and sports. As a graphic designer for Saturday Night Live from the early 80's to today, to many sporting events and venues, MLB, NFL, AFL, NBA, NHL, tennis, Nascar and The Summer & Winter Olympic Games.

Gentle grass or lavender fields grace many paintings by French master artist Dominique Dorie. His works are collected worldwide for their simplicity, strength, and range of colors. He is at home with florals, as much as he is with boats and fields in southern France. His works reflect harmony of nature, and offer a gentle look though a painter's brush strokes. Delightful Mediterranean Colors of Kerfily

This week on clearance at the Westport River Gallery is a delightful 31x31 floral & landscape by French arrist Kerfily. Original proce $6500; Clearance $2200 unframed. Kerfily was born in Bonneval, Eur et Loir in 1948. He studied artistic photography then art and engraving. As of 1972, he exhibited his first work in Paris. After having soaked up the landscapes of the Mediterranean, the Lubéron, Corsica and after having accumulated countless sketches, water-colours and drawings, Kerfily recreates landscapes unhindered by a concern for realism.

Blaze of Colors from Nadine Lecomte

Whether it is boats on the water against a blazing red sky, or a bright yellow image of Provence, French Canadian artist Nadine Lecomte is just as comfortable. Seven new works have arrived, and each is bold, brash, colorful and unique. Her works demand attention, brighten up their surroundings and create a focal point of inspiration. After studying visual art, she began focusing her interests on watercolor. She developed a unique technique, creating soft and colorful works featuring her native Brittany. Later, when she began painting in oil, vibrant images of Provence and Africa became the primary subjects of her work. Since 1993, she has exhibited in Brittany, Provence, Paris, China, NY and Westport. Unframed sizes range from 12x12 to 16x32.

 

Coming: Rothman's Otters & Jungle Life

The graceful world of the sea otter (and other creatures, dinosaurs & jungle cover) takes center stage at the Westport River Gallery next month, as original works by Mike Rothman go on display. Rothman is a natural science illustrator who has joined four botanical expeditions to the neotropics and two in the Samoan archipelago. His work has been in major publications and also used for scientific purposes. The subject matter in his artwork stems principally from his interest in biology and reflects both his work for The New York Times Science section and his continued liaison and collaboration with the Institute of Systematic Botany at the New York Botanical Garden.

The Beauty of Provence by Elisabeth Estivalet

A new vase of florals by Elisabeth Estivalet. A native of Poland, Elizabeth Estivalet fell in love with the region of Provence when she settled there in the late 1970’s. Though she holds degrees in both Economics and Philosophy, the countryside of Provence elicited from her a natural artistic talent, and she embarked on a passionate and lifelong career as an artist. Painting solely with a palette knife, Estivalet taught herself to master the techniques of color management, perspective and composition. What resulted are candid renditions of a tranquil and serene Provence. Estivalet’s sunny landscapes bring to mind the works of the old Post-Impressionist masters. Westport River Gallery has many original art works by Elisabeth Estivalet.

French Landscapes by Ferran

Born in 1943 close to Narbonne, Michel Ferran, decided in 1992 to open a workshop and consequently became a professional painter, primarily focusing on the landscapes of Provence. His painting evolved quickly to a purified stylization of the subjects and forms. Working the paste and the colors together, it carved its fabric of a pallet containing blue, ochres, yellows and reds, highlighting the light to create unique effects. His talent was noticed by collectors and publishers. His pictured were then collected across Europe, and the United States, until he passed away in 2003. Westport River Gallery has about 10 paintings by the late artist.

Azures, Reds & Greens Define Tron's Provence

Despite fulfilling numerous commissions and exhibitions at several prestigious galleries, Jean Claude Tron did not begin to dedicate all his energies to painting until 1990. Jean Claude Tron is passionate about the southern region of France, in particular Provence, and this remains his essential source of inspiration. The extravagance of the colors in his palette betrays the influence of Fauvist Expressionism, featuring brilliant yellow, deep azure blues, strong reds, shades of violet and just a touch of vivid green. His airy canvases are characterized by simplicity of form which represents the natural order of the countryside, while the thickly applied blocks of color make the fields vibrate with light. This is the only work available by Tron at the Westport River Gallery.
